Baby Potential was born from the belief that with love, education and community support, all babies have the potential to grow into productive adults and achieve career success - regardless of gender, race or socio economic status. The Baby Potential product line provides a means for spreading that message, while at the same time giving parents and gift-givers a unique option for baby apparel.
Baby Potential is the brainchild of creator Dacia Napier, M.D., a full-time radiologist and mother of two, and principal Allison Zeller, a philanthropist and mother of three. Dacia and Allison - both beneficiaries of a college education, loving and supportive families, and countless opportunities - recognize the disparity in our society, not just in gender, but also in access to encouragement, opportunities and education for at-risk children. So the pair created Baby Potential apparel to communicate a message worth repeating. Every baby has value. Every baby has the potential to be what ever he or she wants to be.
Grow far. The core philosophy of Baby Potential is to affect change by nurturing education through social marketing and community outreach. The Baby Potential apparel line includes infant and toddler onesies and t-shirts with colorful graphic patches featuring a variety of gender-neutral career fields. So, whether a baby wears the “teacher” or “biologist” patch, Baby Potential apparel communicates to the world the inherent potential that each and every baby possesses. Baby Potential also offers parents and gift-givers the option to purchase a custom career patch from the specialty line (online ordering only).
The idea for an apparel line was inspired by Dacia Napier’s aunt, who Dacia says would hand-embroider adorable onesies for new babies in the family. Dacia encouraged her aunt to sell them, and when her aunt told her she wasn’t interested in doing so, Dacia asked, “Do you mind if I do?”
When Dacia decided to take on the project of a new business, she asked herself, “How can I use this idea to be more than a business of selling baby apparel?” Dacia wanted to affect change by using the apparel to conduct social marketing that would remind adults to nurture every baby’s potential to be what ever he or she wants to be – regardless of gender, race or socio economic status. Additionally, Dacia wanted to give back to organizations that supported at-risk women and children.
Dacia developed a prototype of a onesie featuring a colorful graphic career patch. Even Dacia’s nanny got involved and coined the company’s name – Baby Potential. As momentum grew, Dacia questioned if the concept was just too much to handle on her own, so she showed the prototype to her friend, Allison Zeller, and invited Allison to get involved.
“It’s about helping children and helping the community,” says Allison, “how could I not support this?” With Allison on board, the pair began working diligently to develop the full line of career patches.
Today, Baby Potential offers 12 featured career patches, and parents and gift-givers can order custom career patches from the specialty line. More importantly, the Baby Potential specialty line supports programs benefiting at-risk women and children in San Antonio.
Realizing potential. Baby Potential believes we all have a responsibility to the at-risk women and children in our community.
To demonstrate that commitment, Baby Potential - through a partnership with Family Service Association (FSA) of San Antonio, has established a Sew Circle to produce the custom patches in our specialty line. Sew Circle associates, who are women receiving services from FSA, earn extra income from home by hand-sewing patches and embroidering career names onto garments.
Baby Potential will donate a portion of profits to support various community outreach and educational programs funded through FSA.
